Please join the international online Feather Project community on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, and share with us your comments and video replies to the uploaded posts and videos.
Support the Feather Project by forwarding the invitation to young people below the age of 35 to share with us their dreams, visions, and wishes for the future of the planet in writing, poetry, drawing, or on video. On the Feather Project website, these contributions will be combined with expressions of the wisdom and life experience of moral and spiritual elders, as well as with best practiced projects that help to transform inspiration into action.Â
Please also feel encouraged to record interviews with elders in your communities, ask them about their life experiences and their messages to the next generation!
Another way to join and support the Feather Project is make use of the Feather ceremony as a means of encouraging intergenerational dialogue in conferences, workshops or other events. The methodology is very simple: young people share their deepest wish or dream for the future and while holding a feather and then pass the feather to an elder with the question "Based on your life experience, what lesson would you like to share with us, the next generation?". From the elder, the feather goes to the next young person etc. This ceremony may be a powerful opening for a deep dialogue among the generations about how to address the major challenges humanity is facing, and how we can forge inclusive solutions by tapping into the visions of the young and the wisdom of our elders.
During the "Threads of Sustainability" Ceremony that we organized in Mahatma Gandhi's historical ashram in Ahmadabad, the feather was replaced by the hand-spun cotton that symbolized Gandhiji's struggle for self-reliance of the Indian people. Therefore, the object that is being passed around does not necessarily need to be a feather, it can be any object that is meaningful to the group and is appropriate to the context in which the ceremony is being held. Â
